Discipleship

What does that mean?

The definition of discipleship is the process of training people to follow Jesus Christ and His teachings. It involves obeying his commands, loving one another, bearing much fruit, making disciples, and denying oneself.

Matthew 28:19 – “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…” The command here is to make disciples, not make Christians. This seems to be lost on most people even within our churches. Unfortunately, we as the church body have gotten so comfortable sitting in the comfort of our pews on Sunday morning worshipping with our friends and neglecting to step out of the church and our comfort zone to do more.  The bottom line is, we are disobeying God.  We should ALL be discipled and discipling.

I believe a great way to do this is find someone older than you to disciple you and someone younger than you to disciple. You will all be in different stages in life and can learn from the person that has already gone through the stage you are in. There is much wisdom that can come from someone that has already lived through more than you and differently than you.

This month I was blessed to begin the discipleship process. This is something I have prayed about, and it has taken a while to happen. It helped me to learn patience in the waiting because I am an “immediate action” type person. We are always right where God wants us and never there by accident. To be able to help someone with their spiritual growth is a blessing and should not be taken lightly.

Leading someone is a responsibility all on its own. It is a responsibility not only to the person you are discipling but, to God himself.

My challenge to you: Find your people!! Start discipleship now. If you don’t feel comfortable discipling someone start with being discipled yourself.

Remember this is a Blessing!!

JUST START SOMEWHERE!!

Together in Christ,
